about
Following the BBC Radio 6 Music played summer single ‘Neon’, London’s Desert Ships announce the release of new single ‘Fire On The Moon’ on Friday 17th December 2021.
Drawing influence from Garage Rock, Dream Pop, and Neo-psychedelia - the result is a catchy and melodic two and a half minute fuzz bass and synthesiser driven song that tells the tale of a blue collar worker living and working in orbit, spending his days cleaning satellites and his nights missing his family back on earth.
The production is handled gloriously by Mikey Buckley (vocals/guitars), with the line-up completed by the mesmeric rhythm section of Daniel McLean (bass/keys) and Claude Trejonis (drums/vocals), with complementary sonic duties from Ant Baker (guitar/vocals). Ecstatic reactions to their recent Hope n’ Anchor live show confirmed that “Desert Ships are a fantastic band that deliver groovy, hypnotic tunes” (Music Is To Blame), and that ‘Fire On The Moon’ is surely destined to join ‘Neon’ in sailing out on the airwaves.
The track’s accompanying video, directed by Gil De Ray, stars Jimmy Morgan channeling his inner ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’.
Mastered by Tim Turan (Supergrass, Killing Joke), ‘Fire On The Moon’ is available to stream / download on Friday 17th December 2021.

lyrics
THERE’S A FIRE ON THE MOON
IT’S HEATING UP THE HEAVENS
THERE’S A MAN IN A SPACESUIT WHO’S FIXING THE STARS
HE’S NOT SEEN HIS WIFE AND HIS KIDS FOR MONTHS
THE RADIO’S DOWN AND HE CAN’T GET THROUGH
HE JUST WANTS TO SAY HELLO
HE’S BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS
HE’S CLIMBING UP ANTENNAS
IF HE SHOUTS LOUD ENOUGH WILL HIS WORDS GET THROUGH
HE’S STUCK IN A VOID DOING LOOPS OF THE MOON
HIS TV WORKS BUT ITS SUCH A BORE
HE CAN’T EVEN SAY HELLO
NO, HE CAN’T EVEN SAY HELLO
THEY GOT HIM WORKED INTO A DAZE
TRYING TO PUT OUT ALL THE FLAMES
THE FOLKS DOWN BELOW WELL THEY CAN’T STAY WARM
THEY STAND ON THEIR ROOFS BUT THEY STARE AT THEIR PHONES
THE SATELLITE’S DOWN COS THE SIGNAL IS GONE
THEY DON’T EVEN SAY HELLO
THEY DON’T EVEN SAY HELLO
